welcome

To your left are the icons that will lead you to my shopping areas. I've completed the coding for my Belize Beer Coaster Store ... yay! ... and my Paper Goods store, featuring my own original collage designs as kNotes for kNitters © -- ruminations on Fiber Arts themes -- and Unfortu-Notes ©, in which strange things happen to presumably good people.

Outside my website, you can also visit my Etsy Store to see my electronic collage designs on note cards, postcards, tee shirts, tote bags & more!

free knitting patterns

I've added a new section to my website to share the knitting patterns I've designed. All of these are free, so help yourself!

Currently you'll find patterns for my Better Catnip Mouse (shown above) and my Belize Baby Blanket. Stay tuned for the first of my Archaeo-Knits patterns, a large tote bag inspired by Navajo weaving designs!

sneak previews

My Auction Preview Room showcases the most interesting items I've found lately that I intend to sell on eBay. This area gives you a "sneak preview", and more info & photos than may end up in the auction.

Currently you'll find two fascinating autographs: one from the late Native American artist R. C. Gorman (who scrawled across Ann-Margret's face!), the other from Texas singing icon Willie Nelson, inscribed to "Mary ... flying too close to the ground".

knitting news

Get your needles ready to "knit red" for a worthy cause: the Red Scarf Project begins September 1 and ends October 31. How it works: you knit a scarf and send it to the Orphan Foundation of America. They lovingly bundle your knitwork into Valentine's Day care packages sent to college-bound foster kids, warming their hearts -- and necks!

The OFA began its Red Scarf Project in 2005 with 3,500 scarves. Last year, knitters across America contributed more than 15,000 scarves! You can also help out with cash contributions towards postage, packaging and so forth. The project is endorsed by Interweave Knits, The National Needle Arts Association, and the Lily Chin Signature Collection.

So follow this link to read all about the Red Scarf Project, including a list of free scarf patterns ... then cast on!

This month, Nashua Handknits introduced its own knitting and crochet magazine! Click this PDF link to see thumbnails of the 26 gorgeous patterns in the premiere issue, which features the work of designer Kristin Nicholas.

The bad news is, the new magazine's price tag is currently north of $25 ... per issue ... ouch! The good news is, you can sign up for Nashua's newsletter for free, and get 2 free patterns, including the one shown here, too.

comments?

I welcome your comments, though I have to be coy about my email address to defeat the spammers: you can contact me at margaret [at] localgringos [dot] com. You know what to do, right?

And fellow Ravelry members can find me there as "MaggieBelize".

what's new?

The latest of my kNotes for kNitters ©  designs: a series of individual knitting hands postcards from the Hands/Knit composite collage. These are based on historic images ranging from 1859 England to 1932 Wellesley College!

Previously I introduced kNit Love (Not Everybody Gets It). Two happy knitters chatter while non-knitting friend lapses into boredom coma ... Be sure to check out the wonderful coffee mug with this design, too.

Before that came my kNit Rodeo! canvas tote bag, and two new Unfortu-Notes ©: Bambi Gone Bad, and Mom in Lion Cage.

webwatch

Here are some of my current online favorites, the best things since sliced bread IMHO.

Uh oh, another crafty website to get lost in ... for hours! The Craft Gossip Blog Network is a compendium of news & tips & contests & more, o my, for crafts of every description. And visit their sister Craftbits site to get a head start on your Christmas Crafts!

Kinda Kreepy: Enter any U.S. street address on the FelonSpy.com website, and find out how many convicted felons are living in the area ... and where. FelonSpy's motto is "You Need to Know Who Your Neighbors Are." Brrrr.

Free Kibble for Shelter Pets: A 12-year-old girl in Oregon wanted to provide food for dogs and cats in shelters. Play her Bow-Wow trivia game, and each of your free clicks provides 20 bits of kibble! (Over 2 million kibbles have been distributed since she started her website in April 2008.)

Paperbackswap.com ... Whoo boy, is this a fun site! It's like an all-you-can-read buffet. Get rid of the books you've read -- paperback, hardback, whatever -- by exchanging them for books you haven't. Last I checked, they had more than 2 million books listed! (If you like this one as much as I do, be sure to tell them I referred you and I'll get a free credit. My username over there is MaggieBelize.)
